SpaceFarms is the latest venture to be developed by Tusya Gharibashvili, following in the wake of Urban
Greens, her first highly successful effort at urban farming. Founded in 2017, Urban Greens was developed by
Gharibashvili from the ground up, quickly becoming the largest and most reliable supplier of micro greens to
chefs and restaurateurs throughout Tbilisi.
Looking for something new and different, and after considerable research, Gharibashvili determined that
vertical farming had not yet been fully exploited and was ideally suited to an urban setting. With financial
support from the Adjara Group and built over 150 square meters inside the Tbilisi-based Stamba hotel (an
Adjara Group property), SpaceFarms was launched as Georgia’s first commercially viable, indoor, vertical
farming project.
Employing advanced agricultural technologies (Controlled Environment Agriculture – CEA) that automate
complex tasks such as light intensity, nutrient intake, humidity, carbon dioxide emissions, and temperature, the
facility creates optimal growing conditions for undeniably high-quality culinary greens. Based on its significantly
smaller carbon footprint, consuming 75 percent less water than traditional farming, and growing all if its
products with absolutely no pesticides or hazardous agricultural chemicals, the facility has been recognized as
an operational marvel.
After she introduce for Georgian customers first subscription service “GET YOUR HEALTHY MIX OF GREENS
UPON REQUEST” and morning harvested fresh greens delivered every day to subscribers from farm to home.
Now she works for new project – modular farm Spacefarms spot, first prototype is done and located in Tbilisi.
The main goal of SpaceFarms Spots was to provide customers with the freshest crops possible without the need
for transportation; to grow plants with the best qualities while also caring for the environment by reducing
negative impact.
Modular farms consume the least amount of water and energy, have zero waste, no need for transportation,
and emit no emissions, which reduces agriculture’s carbon footprint naturally.
SpaceFarms Spots can be used to create a big sustainable farm or placed individually in grocery stores,
restaurants, marketplaces, buildings, and other locations where customers can pick up fresh plants directly
from the modular farm with roots that sustain all of the vital nutrients till consumption. To put it another way,
farming becomes a lot easier – no need for land, fertile soil, or many hours of labor to produce healthy crops.
